Born in Salinas, California, Cain began wrestling at an early age. He attended Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona, where he played football and wrestled. Cain showed great potential as a wrestler and was the two-time Arizona High School State Wrestling Champion. Following high school, he attended Iowa Central Community College, becoming the Junior College Wrestling National Champion. Extremely talented and possessing an undeniable work ethic, Cain stood out and caught the eye of Arizona State head coach Thom Ortiz, who offered Cain a full scholarship. While at ASU, he earned the honors of two-time NCAA All-American, two-time Pac-10 Heavyweight Champion, 2005 Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year and a BS degree in Education. Prior to his senior year in college, Cain expressed an interest in mixed martial arts to Ortiz, who promised to help find him the best agent once he completed his wrestling career. Cain’s goal of becoming NCAA Champion fell short, but that only fueled his desire to become the best MMA fighter in the world.
